West Hills Music Club was founded by Mrs. Staford Lantz, H. A. Redfield,
C. W. Manss, C. Myers and W. Corliss, all deceased. Initially there
were 16 performing members and 4 associate members. |

club becomes affiliated with the National Federation of Music Clubs
and the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs. |

The
West Hills Music Club Chorus was formed.
The West Hills Junior Music Club was organized for junior and senior
high school students. The group is also affiliated with the National
and Ohio Federation of Music Clubs. Members of the West Hills Music
Club serve as counselors. |

The
club purchased a Baldwin C Grand Piano - 6ft 3in
- for $600. This is the piano we still use today. |

The
club celebrated its silver anniversary (25 years), on March 7, at
Price Hill Library, Warsaw Ave., Price Hill. Mrs. Norma Elsaesser
was president, Miss Florence Rose was program chairman, Mrs. Antoinette
Feist was day chairman, and Mrs. Mary Louise Waltz was hospitality
& tea hostess chairman. Attendance was 150 members and guests. |

The
West Hills Pre-Junior Music Club was organized for grade school music
students. The club follows the same format as the Junior Music Club. |

A
scholarship fund was begun to provide scholarships for eighth and
ninth grade students to encourage the study of music. These awards,
known as Music Achievement Awards, have been given each year. |

The
club celebrated its golden anniversary (50 years) at the June luncheon
on June 3, at Westwood Cheviot Church of Christ. Mrs. Rosalie Ireland
was the chairman of the luncheon, Mrs. Phylis Kuhn was president,
and Mrs. Evelyn Griley was the program chairman. Mrs. Robert Casey,
president of the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs, did the installation
of officers for the next year. All past presidents, eleven of whom
were present, were honored. Lunch was served on the lower level of
the church (cost was $2.50!). |

Hills Music Club Trust Fund. |

The
Evelyn Griley Scholarship Trust Fund was established in accordance
with the will of Evelyn Griley, a past president and dear member who
died in 1988. A $1,000 scholarship was awarded to a student from Turpin
High School to apply to tuition at the University of Cincinnati, College
Conservatory of Music. |

the School for Creative and Performing Arts, to apply to tuition at
the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, New York.

Mary
Doepke, a dear member of the West Hills Music Club and Pianist, died
on November 15 and willed her piano to the club. |

The
club sold Mary Doepkes piano to club member Louise Daey for
$7,000, since we could not have another piano moved into the Westwood
Cheviot Church of Christ parlor. |

The
Piano Committee made a decision regarding the money received from
the sale of Mary Doepkes piano, as follows:
$2,000 was paid to Geers Company for re-finishing of exterior
of piano.
$1,000 was given to the West Hills Music Club Scholarship Fund.
$2,000 was put in CD in name of the West Hills Music Club Scholarship
Fund. The interest earned will be used for college music students
in their third year of study.
Balance to be put in the Piano Fund, in a $2,000 CD. It was
further decided that the interest earned on this CD would be used
for college music students in their third year of study.
The club celebrated its diamond anniversary (75 year) at the June
luncheon on June 1, at the Western Hills Country Club. Helen Crow,
past president, was chairman. Carol Gangwer was president, Ann Boren
did the table decorations, and Clara Dreyer arranged the seating at
the head table. The theme Diamond Jubilee was carried
out with beautiful decorations in a black and white motif. The place
cards were each decorated with a simulated diamond. The favor at each
place was a hand-painted black and white miniature flowerpot. It was
a festive occasion. A good time was had by all! |
